Initial assessment
and oral exam simulation

An initial assessment helps plan training. An oral exam simulation helps determine readiness for the official exam. Both explain the findings and the next steps.

Initial assessment of the learner’s level

Before planning a course, establish where the learner stands and what reaching the target is likely to involve. The skills to be assessed are agreed before the session.

A clear assessment of the learner’s current level

An estimate of the current level, supported by observations of strengths and difficulties.

Training priorities

The abilities to develop, in order of importance, and how they relate to the target.

A projected timeline and budget

A range of training hours, translated into a schedule and estimated costs for the proposed format. Assumptions and review points are made clear.

Training estimates are reviewed as learning progresses. They do not guarantee an examination result or a fixed completion date.

See how training is planned

Oral exam simulation

Assess how an employee’s observed performance compares with the target level before the official oral exam. The feedback explains the findings and gives the learner a practical improvement roadmap.

Understand the learner’s performance

Examples from the simulation show strengths and recurring difficulties, with an explanation of how they affect communication.

Identify the learning priorities

Priorities address the underlying skills, so the learning can carry over to different questions and topics.

Recognize improvement

Recommendations explain what stronger performance would look like when answering unfamiliar questions independently.

The review considers fluency and development, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and comprehension. The learner’s performance determines which areas need the most attention.

Feedback that leads to a next step

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE · FICTIONAL LEARNER

Observation

An opinion and example are given, but the reasoning remains unexplained.

Priority

Learn to justify the opinion and connect the example to the argument.

Progress to look for

Explain and defend a position on a new topic, and answer follow-up questions without a prepared response.

ARC’s assessment of readiness is advisory. The official result is determined by the examining body; a simulation does not guarantee a result.
